While blasting down the autobahn I saw a familiar badge on a car I'd never seen.
Meet the Subaru Trezia!
It's a rebadged Toyota Ractis according to my research. Also, it's ugly.

Makes sense. Toyota owns a significant percentage of Subaru these days.

That looks so much like the new Honda Fit.

Not that much, Toyota owns <9% of Fuji Heavy Industries. It just so happens that they have a very visible joint project.

We rented a Ractis with a CVT gearbox when I went to Japan this summer. It was a fine car.
Except for the CVT gearbox.

Toyota's up to 16% now. That's not the only joint project, and they're becoming more tied together. Aisin (controlled by Toyota) makes their transmissions and Subaru picks up excess production of the Camry.

That reminds me of my neighbour's Subaru R2.

Not the first time they've sold a rebadged version of another company's model. Subaru has a strong presence in the kei market but between that and the Impreza they really haven't come to the table with much of their own.

Still better looking than the new Yaris...
